What Is Senior Placement

If You'd Rather Read

Bre

This week is a pre-recorded Zoom meeting that I had with a great friend and colleague of ours, Wendy Jones. She's the CEO and founder of Next Steps 4 Seniors. She also has a great non-profit organization called "Next Steps For Life", which we discuss in the video above. Obviously, we're adhering to social distancing guidelines, so a Zoom meeting was more appropriate for this. I'm really excited for you guys to hear more about it. She's got a heart of gold. We've been working with her for years, and we support their cause. It's something that we all hold near and dear to our heart. Hello everybody, it's Bre from Affordable HomeCare. I hope everybody had a great week. I'm really excited about our guest. I have Wendy Jones from Next Steps 4 Seniors. She is the founder. We've been working with Wendy for years and I have nothing but incredible things to say about her company, the organization, and her whole team. So I'm going to let her take this from here and just kind of tell us a little bit about your business and about what your position is and just go right ahead, Wendy.

Wendy

Thank you, Bree. I'm excited about being here today and I appreciate the opportunity. So we've been a partner of Affordable HomeCare for years, and so thank you for the opportunity today. So I'm the CEO and founder of Next Steps 4 Seniors, the business, and kind of what we're doing, and I say "the business" cause we also have a foundation, what we're doing truly is walking alongside seniors everyday during not just COVID, but during anytime of their lives. As they age, there comes a point in time when after Affordable has been able to help you stay at home as long as you possibly can, unfortunately some things happen that you may not be able to stay home alone anymore, and you know, if you end up in the hospital with a broken hip or a rehab center and you need just something short term to move somewhere, or you need long term placement because you've lost a spouse, a loved one, maybe you can't drive or get to the grocery store and you need meals.

So that's the kind of thing that Next Steps 4 Seniors helps you find assisted living, independent living, group homes. We have been in pretty much every, in Southeast Michigan, I think almost every single community or any type of senior living that there is. So we vet all of these places. We understand what the strengths are of them. We know the types of people, the types of activities. So instead of getting into the car and driving around to all these different places, you can call Next Steps 4 Seniors and we assign a personal placement specialist, like you mentioned, Bre, we have a team of people, and they will literally lock arms with you and walk through the process with you. So it's kind of nice to have an advocate in your corner, and that's really what we really pride ourselves on, and like you said, my team is amazing. They care. They have so much compassion and love. They love on these seniors, and so much understanding, so it's just been a great journey, and our goal really is to be there for you during those difficult times and decisions you have to make.

Bre

Yeah, and I have Wendy and her team on speed dial literally. There is, you know, multiple phone conversations and texts and emails going through every week. I need somebody over at your team to help a family. Homecare is important and we love it and, you know, that's obviously what we do, but it gets to a point sometimes where it's just not enough or it's an affordability situation. You know, there's many different reasons why it's an overwhelming process for a lot of people to decide where do I go, and, you know, I have certain preferences and needs and things like that, and so I will definitely always just hop on the phone right away and reach out to Wendy or one of her team members for help. Definitely, definitely in my back pocket there.

Wendy

The best part, I think, really is that the service is free of charge to the families, so because it's a very overwhelming time, the last thing you want to do is have to write a check, so I've designed my business model so that the family doesn't have to write a check in any way, shape or form, and you get the assistance you need, so we move you into the communities and then it's like real estate. Like, once you move into a house, the real estate agent gets paid. It's the same kind of concept, so it's very simple for people to understand and they understand that, "Hey, if you don't move anywhere, it's okay. It's not about the money. We want to help you through the process, and it's worth it to us to know that you're in a safe place."

Bre

Yeah, I mean you guys are definitely the real deal. You have a foundation, which proves that, so if you'd like to talk about your foundation, I'd love to hear more about it.

Wendy

So the foundation is really my passion because what happened when I started this business is I realized people weren't just overwhelmed with the process of finding a place, they were overwhelmed with finding a place on a limited income, and what I realized real fast after opening the business, the business is eight years old, the foundation is three years old, is that people would call and they'd had all these litany of problems and then they'd get to the very end of all the problems with their mom or their dad and then they would say and they don't have any money. So now what do we do, right? Because now they have 13 or $1400 a month in social security, so that's where my foundation steps in, and we have a threefold vision and it's to support financially, assist physically, and share spiritually. So our goal is to give them a senior scholarship between $50 and $400 a month to the community that they move into, and then for physically supporting, we actually help them get a moving company and do all this other stuff free of charge to make it happen for them, and then spiritually, share spiritually, we have a team of volunteers that actually visit, call, talk to, listen, meet with, pray, whatever they need, and it's an amazing opportunity for us just to really embrace our seniors and, Bre, especially right now, when seniors are so lonely and they're isolated truly, this is the time where we have a team that's really trying to rally around our seniors and make phone calls to them on a regular basis. We've got a ton of volunteers that are just rising above and going into action, so the foundation, it's been awesome. It's been awesome to see it grow, and I have high hopes that it's going to grow much larger over the years. We do need funds, yeah, just so you know. If anybody's listening and wants to donate, nextsteps4seniorsfoundation.org. Yeah, we don't get any funding from the government or the state. It's all private donors.

Bre

And that's so wonderful cause there's just not enough resources for seniors, and it's just so disheartening because, you know, they've put in their time, they've worked hard their whole lives, and then you run out of money and what happens? And you know, so it's so wonderful that you've started something like that and it seems to be getting bigger by the year. Kudos for you for that. That's amazing. Like I said, heart of Gold, Wendy, right there. So what is the best way for somebody to reach you? So if anybody's listening to this and they're like, "Oh my gosh, I could definitely use this type of service, or just find out more information from you."

Wendy

Yes, so the best way is really to call us, and our phone is answered 24/7. We have an answering service at night, and that number's 248 651 5010. We have a website, nextsteps4seniors.com. You can always fill out a submission form and send that in as well.

Bre

Awesome. Like I said, we will continue to support you. We love working with you guys, so anything we can all do to put our heads together we're open to it. Like I said, we work with Next Steps, you know, on a weekly basis, if not a daily basis at this point, so we're huge supporters. Anybody just, you know, interested in hearing more just need to check out their website. It'll be right here on the screen for you guys too. We'll also put it in the comments section below. So again, thanks so much for being with me today, Wendy. I know we'll be talking again soon. I had to have you on these videos because I think that it's so important for people to know, you know, what you guys do and what you offer, and like I said, I think that the foundation is such a beautiful thing too. It needs to be heard, so.

Wendy

Thank you, Bre. I appreciate it. You guys are awesome. We appreciate the partnership. And thank you for the opportunity.
