Why this scholarship exists

Caregiving is one of the hardest, most undervalued professions in healthcare — and it is also one of the most important. Michigan needs more trained CNAs, HHAs, and direct-care professionals than the labor market is currently producing, and the people who choose this work usually do so for reasons that have very little to do with the paycheck.

The Adair family — founders of Affordable Home Care — created this scholarship to recognize the next generation of caregivers entering the field. The award is intentionally simple: $1,500, one essay, no service obligation, no employment requirement. Whether the recipient ends up working in home care, a hospital, a memory-care facility, or a rural clinic, our goal is the same: support someone choosing this work, on their terms.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in a CNA, HHA, or direct-care certification program at an accredited Michigan community college, vocational school, or training institute.
  • No minimum GPA required.
  • No age requirement — career-changers are encouraged to apply.
  • Open to all Michigan-program enrollees regardless of state of residence.
  • No employment commitment to Affordable Home Care or any other agency.

Affordable Home Care is a family business — founded by Greg Adair and now run by his son Austin Adair, who has been in the home care field since 2006. Naming the scholarship 'Adair' rather than after the agency reflects the family's personal commitment to the next generation of caregivers, separate from the company brand.
